The Complete Guide to Getting Started with XR Piano

Tomo

“I want to start XR piano. What should I prepare first?”

In this article, we’ll provide a complete guide to getting started with XR piano (Sigure), covering everything from what you’ll need to your very first practice session.

STEP 1: Prepare What You’ll Need

  • Meta Quest 3 / 3s: Starting around ¥50,000. Both models are compatible with Sigure.
  • A MIDI-compatible digital piano: Starting around ¥20,000. At least 61 keys recommended, ideally 88. You’ll need a “MIDI OUT” or “USB to HOST” port.
  • A MIDI cable: Choose one that matches the connector type on your digital piano. The Meta Quest 3 / 3s side uses USB-C.
  • The Sigure app: ¥1,800. Available for purchase on the Meta Quest Store.

STEP 2: Connect and Calibrate

Connect your digital piano to the Meta Quest 3 / 3s with a MIDI cable

Plug the cable in firmly all the way and confirm the connection.

Launch Sigure

Launch Sigure after downloading and purchasing it from the Meta Quest Store.

Perform calibration

In the same position you’ll use while playing, register the keyboard’s position by following the on-screen instructions. Once you’re used to it, this takes just 10–30 seconds.

STEP 3: Choose Your First Song and Practice

Choose a song you’d like to play from a library of 300+ songs, centered around pop hits, anime songs, and classical pieces.

Choosing a song you genuinely want to play is the single biggest key to sticking with practice.

How to Approach Practice

Turn on the Stay Notes function and the auto-accompaniment function and start with one hand at a time; when you bring both hands together, slow down the tempo. Once you can play through without stopping, gradually increase the tempo.

STEP 4: Keep Going Without Overdoing It

  • Aim to practice every day, even just 10–15 minutes
  • Take a break roughly every 30–45 minutes
  • Track your score to monitor your progress

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q
Q. Is it okay if I have absolutely no piano experience?

A. Yes. Even if you can’t read sheet music, you can get started just by following the note guide. Finger numbers are also displayed, so you can practice with reasonably correct fingering.

Q
Q. What if I already own a digital piano?

A. Check whether it has a MIDI output port. If it does, all you need to do is get the right cable, a Meta Quest 3 / 3s, and the Sigure app to get started.
